Children can make a pop-up mosque Eid Mubarak card, colour in free Eid colouring pages, print and decorate Eid bunting, and fold a little gift basket or box for sweets or Eid money. Younger children love making potato-print Eid cards, while older ones can stitch a beaded moon and star lacing card for family and friends.
When is Eid al-Fitr in the UK 2027? Wednesday 10 March 2027. (approximate: the date can vary with the moon or by community)
Eid al-Fitr, the 'Festival of the Breaking of the Fast', marks the end of Ramadan and the first day of the Islamic month of Shawwal. It begins when the new crescent moon is seen, so the date moves each year and can differ by a day between communities. Before the Eid prayer, Muslims give a special charity called Zakat al-Fitr so that people in need can celebrate too. On Eid morning families put on their best or new clothes, go to the mosque for the special Eid prayer and greet each other with 'Eid Mubarak', meaning 'blessed Eid'. The day is spent visiting family and friends, sharing a special daytime meal and sweet treats, and children often receive gifts or Eid money. Celebrations can carry on for up to three days. In the UK, many families decorate their homes with bunting, lights, lanterns, moons and stars. Making homemade cards, bunting and little gift boxes is a lovely way for children to join in or to learn about a friend's festival.
In the UK, Eid al-Fitr 2027 is expected on Wednesday 10 March (beginning the evening of Tuesday 9 March), but it depends on the moon sighting and some communities may celebrate a day earlier or later.

Little ones can dab potato-print shapes onto a card or bunting, stick torn paper strips into a crescent moon card, colour simple Eid Mubarak pictures or decorate a ready-cut paper lantern with stickers. Keep sessions short and let a grown-up do the cutting. Talk together about how families celebrate Eid with new clothes, visits and sharing food.
You will mostly need bright paper and thin card, a printer for templates, child-safe scissors, a glue stick, felt-tips or crayons, and stickers or a little glitter. Potato printing needs a potato, poster paint and a grown-up to cut the shapes. For gift boxes and baskets, light card holds its shape best, and shredded paper makes a pretty filling.

Keep scissors and any craft knife with the grown-ups, and keep small decorations like beads, sequins and buttons away from babies and toddlers. If you light candles at home, keep cards, bunting and paper decorations well away from flames, or choose LED lights instead. When sharing Eid sweets, remember whole nuts are not suitable for children under five.
